you were only waiting for this moment to arise

Week 7: February 11 - February 17.

Well, I messed up.  I forgot to take a picture on Saturday, Feb. 16 and didn’t realize it until the next day when I woke up.   I was slightly depressed and mopey and felt that my project was ruined.  But then decided that it’s my project and I’m human and make mistakes and can do anything I want with it anyway, so I decided to use a photo from last spring in hopes of brightening everyone’s spirits after getting dumped on YET AGAIN with more snow.  The photo is of Buttons, one of the four bunnies that was born in our yard last spring.  I crawled around in the grass tracking him with my camera one day and was surprised at how he didn’t seem very afraid.  So, I hope you all enjoy Buttons and are cheered by the fact that, despite how it looks outside now, that spring is just around the corner.

(Remember, the weeks start on Monday now!)

See you next week!

Welcome to week six!  And happy 6 week anniversary to me and my project.

Last Sunday’s pic is a carry-over this week from our trip to Chicago, so if you looked at my Chicago set on Flickr you’ve probably already seen it.  I actually decided change my format and have my weeks be from Monday to Sunday since some of the weekend photos go together.   So, this week’s photos go from last Sunday, Feb. 3 to yesterday, which was Sunday, Feb. 10.  Next week’s first photo will be Monday,  and I will keep that format from now on.

As many of you know, Iowa City received 10 inches of snow on Wednesday which made the raptor center quite lovely.  I took lots of photos that day but figured you’ve all seen snow before - you probably have not, however, seen a peregrine falcon basking in the glow of her heat lamp.  If you would like to see the rest of the photos I took at the raptor center on Thursday, go to my Flickr “winter” set.

Saturday’s photo breaks the rules a little bit, but it’s my blog so I can do what I want.  The photo is obviously not recent nor one I took myself.  It’s my favorite photo of me and our family dog Cody, who passed away on Saturday, Feb. 9 at the age of 17.  He would have been 18 years old on March 1.  Rest in peace, Budaboo.  And kudos for being the oldest and bestest dog I’ve ever known!

As always, if you have questions, comments, or criticisms about any of the photos, please email me or leave a comment.   See you next week!

It seems like last week was years ago. This weekend Ryan and I went to Chicago and in three short days we packed so much in that I hardly remember what happened before Friday. Let’s see… the storm on Tuesday was unpleasant. Wednesday I met a woman with epilepsy who has her service dog at her side. Etcetera etcetera.

I have to say this about Thursday’s photo. Aura, the turkey vulture at the raptor center, posed for me. I was checking on her as usual and took a few shots but they didn’t look very good. I said, “It’s probably too cold for me to be taking pictures anyway, huh?” At that moment she perked up, turned her back to me, and spread her wings. She stayed like that until I took the photo, and then lowered her wings when i was done. I should add that Aura is human imprinted (raised by humans), which is why she’s a resident at the raptor center.

For more photos, check out my Chicago set on Flickr.

Now I feel as though I’ve said too much. Pay attention to the photos!

PS - Sorry for the late post.  I was, as I mentioned, in Chicago all weekend and Ryan and I got stranded in a hotel in Dixon, IL, on Sunday due to the freak snowstorm.  Of course I did not have my computer.
